Hej! Time to look at the next type foundry and this time, we travel to Scandinavia. Letters from Sweden, founded by self taught type designer Göran Söderström in 2011, is based in Stockholm and designs retail and custom typefaces for local and international clients. Instead of following an overly conceptual or even dogmatic approach, the type designs of Letters from Sweden all share a certain uncontrived, straightforward, but also crafty style.
I guess what you see [in my typefaces] is my style of drawing type hidden there in the letters, as simple as that. I live in symbiosis with the typeface I’m currently drawing, and eventually the typeface tells me what to do and I just follow it.
Highlights of the library include the straightforward Lab Grotesque, the sturdy but elegant serif superfamily Ivar, strongly influenced by Times, and the geometric sans serif Rund that comes with a nice design detail: Rund’s curved strokes have subtly concave terminal shapes, as if they were cut off by a circle.
You can try out all fonts on the website by typing and even changing the font wherever there is a type sample on the site. Test fonts with a limited character set are available on request.
