About Me

Hi, I’m Matthias. I’m an independent user experience designer, user interface engineer, and speaker from Stuttgart, Germany. I teach Interface Prototyping at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Kiel and curate the monthly newsletter Prototyping.news.

I will help you and your team with my expertise and over 10 years of industry experience create delightful, accessible, and performant user interfaces and design systems for the Web and beyond. I deeply care about design that puts the user first and believe that a prototyping mindset is key to successfully build products and services for the heterogeneous web of today.

I love to build prototypes to validate concepts and explore technologies and by combining design and code, I always approach the creation of user interface solutions with a holistic view. To do so, it is important to stay at the cutting edge of web technologies and to always keep learning. This is why I will always share my knowledge with your team to push the boundaries of what’s possible while at the same time I am always open to learn about even better solutions.

Sounds interesting? Let’s talk!

Here is a bit more about what I can do for you and your team:

User Experience Design

Design is a competitive advantage that leads to superior business performance. I will help you design the right user experience by understanding user needs through user research and usability testing and iteratively bringing user-centered design to life – with state-of the-art UX tools and methodologies including a lot of prototyping to validate ideas and different approaches. I will be the advocate of the people who use your product but I’ll also make sure that solutions for products and services successfully meet business needs and tell a story.

UI Engineering and Prototyping

I love creating delightful experiences by translating interaction concepts and visual design into highly usable, accessible, and performant user interfaces and design systems. I help multi-disciplinary, agile teams working on products and long-running projects produce outstanding, beautiful work for the Web, primarily working with semantic HTML, modern CSS, and resilient JavaScript – and with a prototyping mindset to explore and validate ideas and technical solutions in the browser as early as possible.

Workshops and Training

I offer full-day workshops and on-site training events for companies and teams where I share my experience as well as best practices in the fields of UX and UI design, prototyping, responsive web design, processes, and workflows. I will prepare your team for designing with the right mindset for the ever changing multi-device web.

For Adobe Systems, I run workshops on advanced design and prototyping with Adobe XD as part of the Adobe XDI team.

Public Speaking

I occasionally speak at meetups, conferences, and corporate events and would love to do this more in the future. If you want me to speak at your event, feel free to get in touch.

Teaching

Since 2012, I teach Interface Prototyping at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, Germany. The seminar, which is part of the Interface Design program, teaches the basics of prototyping interactive user experiences for digital interfaces. It’s a great honor to help the next generation of designers get prepared for the challenges of the “Experience Age”.
